Day 89

Mood: Absolutely Diabolical

Once upon a time there was a young girl named Ette, and she was blessed with immeasurable knowledge and long, silky brown locks. Many other young girls were jealous of both her knowledge and her beauty. However Ette had one flaw, she was arrogant and boasted these blessings. In fact all she could talk about was the vast knowledge she had obtained. She laughed at others attempts to learn and be knowledgeable and told them that they could never be as smart as her.
Raesila, the goddess of knowledge accepted Ette’s intelligence and wanted to meet the young genius. She asked Ette to become one of her students and ascend to the heavens to learn the secrets of the universe. However, Ette laughed at the goddesses’ face and boasted that her knowledge even exceeded Raesila’s. The goddess then issued a challenge. During the night, the goddess and the girl would have to name all the constellations and the number of stars within them. With their naked eyes, they watched the sky throughout the night. Finally when the sun peeked up over the horizon, they tallied their scores. It was a complete and utter tie. However, Ette laughed once more at the goddess and proclaimed that she we was just as smart.
Swallowing her pride, the goddess started to plan her revenge on the girl, swearing herself to teach Ette to be humble. Not wanting to take away her knowledge, Raesila decided to take away her second gift. Raesila went to her friend the god of beauty, Gilver, to pass judgment upon the girl. Gilver waited till Ette had fallen asleep. Using his magical implements, he transformed her once silky hair into a frizzy mop. When the girl awoke, she saw her reflection and began to weep. However she still had confidence of being the smartest person in the world.
When she began to preach to the people of her great intellect, they only laughed. Greatly horrified, she ran home and began to weep. Her weeping was so powerful her house was flooded by her tears. However, her frizzy hair absorbed the tears, growing larger and frizzier. She asked the heavens why they cursed her with this fate. The goddess Raesila descended and said that if she knew everything, she should know the reason shy she was cursed. Now all those who are arrogant about their intellect, these so-called “know-it-alls” are subjected to the “Curse of Ette”.
